SUBJECT: INCREASING CRIME AMONG CHILDREN

SIR,
THIS IS WITH REFERENCE TO A REPORT RECENTLY PUBLISHED IN THE INDIAN EXPRESS REGARDING THE RECENT SPAT OF CRIME COMMITTED BY SCHOOL CHILDREN, INCLUDING THEFT AND KIDNAPPING WHICH IS A MATTER OF GRAVE CONCERN.

THE RECENT CASES HAVE REVEALED THAT THE TEENAGERS ARE DRIVEN BY GREED OR UNCONTROLLABLE ANGER. YOUNGSTERS TODAY ALSO HAVE AN 'IF HE HAS IT, WHY CAN'T I?' ATTITUDE AND WANT TO  JUST SHOW OFF. THERE IS A LOT OF FRUSTRATION BECAUSE OF UNREALISTIC PARENTAL EXPECTATIONS AND SOCIAL DEMANDS.

ISN'T IT THE TIME FOR SOCIETY TO WAKE UP AND TAKE NOTICE OF THE SITUATION? IT SHOULD BE MADE MANDATORY FOR SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES TO HAVE COUNSELLORS WITH WHOM STUDENTS CAN DISCUSS THEIR PROBLEMS. MORE OVER YOGA AND MEDITATION SHOULD BE STARTED IN SCHOOLS IN ORDER TO RELAX THEIR MIND SO THAT TEENAGERS CAN TAKE CONTROL OF THEIR EMOTIONS RATHER THAN EMOTIONS TAKING CONTROL OVER THEM.

YOURS TRULY
ROHIT KUMAR
